AUDIOINFERNO :- It’s a pleasure having you on AudioInferno.com today, and as we all know you “Rock” !!, so what genre of rock do you jam?
CLAY :- The pleasure is all mine, well I listen to all rock genres, my least favourite rock genre is punk. My favourites are indie, symphony, goth, soft & pop rock.
AI :- Nice, please give us a brief history about your career/ band?
CLAY :- Clay is a one woman rock artiste. I have been singing since i was 8 years old. I started singing professionally a few years ago. I released my first official single in 2011, titled Ogadisinma. Second single 2012, titled Dancing In The Sun. Then a few covers and a few other singles since then. My last buzz single was late last year titled Down feat 1LastAutograph.
AI :- Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
CLAY :- Dolores of Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Dido, Creed, Switchfoot, Kesha, Katy and Onyeka Onwenu. That’s an incomplete list tho, but that would do. LOL
AI :- LOL, so what are your dreams, aims and goals?
CLAY :- Just wanna be a big rockstar, live in hilltop houses, driving fifteen big ugly black trucks. LOL.
AI :- Nickelback , HUH, I know right.
CLAY :- Lol but seriously, I wanna be the biggest rock act from West Africa. To be an exportable product outside Africa, across the globe. Well,to cut it short.
AI :- Who writes your songs, what are they about?
CLAY :- I write my songs. My songs are about life, hope, love and Jesus
AI :- Well that’s nice, how do you promote your bands and songs?
CLAY :- Well…… through the media and social media, basically
AI :- That’s nice, what instrument do you play?
CLAY :- I play the guitar
AI :- When and why did you start playing?
CLAY :- I started playing the guitar officially last year to better myself as an artiste.
AI :- That’s noble, how do you balance your music with your other obligations?
CLAY :- For me my music careeer comes first before everything else. That way its quite easy to balance
AI :- Everyone’s talking about Down and you’ve made a name in the Rock scene what do feel about this ? And what do you have to say about this?
CLAY :- Errr, everyone is talking about it? Lol. Well all I have to say is I try to give almost my best. So if people like it then my aim is gained.
AI :- I see, any advice to the beginners who might be nervous
CLAY :- Well, for starters you have to know if your music is good or not. Don’t just dish out anything because friends and encourage you. Once your music is good, then you gotta keep up the hustle and keep believing. It would get better. Ogadisinma!
AI :- Nice one, I would love to know do you get nervous before a public performance?
CLAY :- Right now, not as much as when i started out .But sometimes yes.
AI :- Lol it happens, how is the Rock music scene fairing and what can you say may be the future in Nigeria and Africa at large
CLAY :- Well the rock scene in Nigeria a few years back was hopeless, but right now there’s a lot of hope. And in the next five years,if you are not a rock star you won’t be cool. In Africa, West Africa is way behind when it comes to the rock community. But like i said we are getting there.
AI :- Yes we are Clay and with this we sadly say goodbye, nice seeing you, hope to see you next time
CLAY:- Same here, had a lovely time thanks.
