Albert Meintjes on the road to releasing his debut solo album: ‘The Very Silence of Waiting in This Place’

The MAN

With his unique voice, brilliant songwriting and exceptional guitar techniques, Albert Meintjes has entertained audiences in London, Croatia, Seychelles, Mozambique, Cuba, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Egypt, Belgium, The Netherlands, Nigeria and Kenya. This month Albert is proudly making his introduction as a solo artist with the release of his debut music video, ‘Dune 45’, featuring Kobus de Kock Jnr. off his upcoming debut album ‘The Very Silence of Waiting in This Place’.

The music video was directed by Loedi van Reenen and shows an array of breathtaking scenery that inspired ‘Dune 45’. Watch the music video here;

He has released two albums with Scicoustic (of which Albert has been the frontman for the past sixteen years), one album as Algrecko featuring Greg Georgiades.

Albert is no stranger to the music scene and has been active since 1996 and the highlights in his long-standing career include his performance with New Porn alongside Arno Carstens, supporting the Metallica tour. He also shared the stage with some of the top artists in South Africa like Albert Frost, Anton La’mour, Karen Zoid, Greg Georgiades, Valiant Swart, Shaun Morgan (Seether), Hugo De Waal , Lani van der Walt, Greg Georgiade, Steve Newman, Guy Collins, Gerald Clark, Piet Botha, Gian Groen and Moseu Kettlele just to name a few.

“Regtig ‘n baie diverse album, ‘n mengelmoes van Suid-Afrikaanse talent wat Albert se hart snare na voort bring. I had a phenomenal time playing in Alberts composition. He allowed me the creative freedom to lose myself …kind of like sitting on Dune 45 ~ Nick Bekker

“The spirit of the desolate places Albert Meintjes drew on for inspiration shines brilliantly on Dune 45. Haunting stuff! Being part of the song was something between a fantastic learning curve and a zen-like musical experience. A pleasure ~ Kobus de Kock jnr

The album is a musical memoir of Albert’s life-changing trek through the dunes of Namibia and has significant narrative exploring the impact that the region’s wide open starry skies and the magnificence of the landscapes, has on transforming one’s soul. Each track accounts for the mystical places he visited while touring the country in 2016. The short behind the scenes travel-doccie which is also narrated by Albert, offers a special look into this incredible journey and its release will be announced. ‘Dune 45’ was composed on the iconic Dune 45 and also features in the making-of documentary.

Albert Meintjes is also one of the first musicians worldwide to be featured on Layar, an augmented reality app and global leader in AR and interactive print which will allow users and fans an unprecedented experience with his music and content. This feature will be accessible at the time of the official album launch.

The Very Silence of Waiting in This Place’, started off as a singer-songwriter approach to capture the sights, sounds and feeling of the different locations, and has grown into a full band production featuring guest musicians Albert Frost, Kobus de Kock Jnr, Chris van der Walt, Nick Bekker, Andre Kriel, Gideon Meintjes, Alouise and Ashley Holton Jacobs adding their melodies, rhythm and feel to the pictures Albert created.

“There is just something about traveling the open road. The rhythmic sound of the wheels dancing with distance, and the wind whispers the untold stories of travellers throughout the ages. In my mind I have conversations about opinions, mistakes and dreams, as memories come and go. And I am chasing the silence beyond the horizons where a calm sense of freedom takes control of my soul. This is the album and story of my journey through Namibia in search of music and inspiration.” – Albert Meintjes

The Very Silence of Waiting in This Place.

Austinrock

Name is Austin, peeps call me Austinrock. I like to interact with bands. You DO NOT have my permission to utilize any of my profile information nor any of the content contained here \m/{*¿*}\m/ …THERE…OK. I’m a huge Melodeath metal fan. I’m proud to be a METALHEAD. Metal isn’t for everybody, it’s for the chosen few. Most friends I have tell me they don’t understand why I like metal, that it is too much noise. They just going to have to listen beyond the noise and the truth is they don’t have to figure it out, it is either in you or it isn’t. Metal is my morning coffee and it’s my night sleeping pills…
