Introducing David Rhino

David Akinnola is a 6ft 2inches tall alternative rock artist/guitarist based in Lagos popularly known as David Rhino. He has single dropping in a couple of days so we decided to catch up with him to have a little chat.

Billy (Audioinferno): Can you tell me about David Rhino?

David Rhino: My real name is David Akinnola. I was born and raised in Ondo State, South-West of Nigeria. As a guitarist and vocalist I grew up listening to different genres of music but actually fell in love with alternative rock music.

Billy (Audioinferno): How has this musical journey been for you so far?

David Rhino: I grew up as a musical child in a musical family, absorbing every bit of music around me and transmitting all of it through the musical instrument I loved most, the guitar.

I started playing the acoustic guitar when I was just eleven years old and have since pursued an undeniable passion for the electric guitar, honing my skills day by day to produce one of the most remarkable playing styles.

I studied music in the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigeria. One of my most defining moments after graduating from the university, was featuring and participating in the Star Quest TV show in 2012 where my band came out 1st runner up among other great bands.

I am a sought-after studio recording and stage performing guitarist in Lagos, Nigeria. I have worked with several artists in Nigeria including; Florocka on the worship session albums volume one and two, Ruby Gyang, Jesse Jags, Nosa, Wole Oni, Johnny Drille, Clay, XTSamurai, Nathmac, Komos to mention a few.

Billy (Audioinferno): You have a single dropping in a couple of days called “So Far Away”, can you tell me a bit about that?

David Rhino: So Far Away is a love song about two lovers who miss each other because of the distance between them; it talks about sacrifice and loyalty.

Billy (Audioinferno): I’ve listened and it’s a brilliant track. How would you describe your sound?

David Rhino: Well, the core of my sound is Rock mixed with African rhythms and percussions, which gives it a unique sound. It is time to take Rock mainstream in Nigeria and to Africa as a whole.

Billy (Audioinferno): What did you hope to communicate to listeners when you were creating this song?

David Rhino: The idea was to spark a feeling of reconnection, love and loyalty. So many people have voids they need to fill because of the emptiness inside, this song helps the listener focus on the good things in life and connect with people around.

Billy (Audioinferno): What should we expect from you moving forward?

David Rhino: Moving forward I’ll be releasing more singles and would love to collaborate with artistes such as Banky W and Tiwa Savage.

Billy (Audioinferno): Where can we find your single?

David Rhino: My single ‘So Far Away’ is available at

And will also be made available on iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, Shazam, Amazon mp3 and many other platforms very soon.

That’s it guys, Don’t forget to follow him on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @davidrhino for more updates.
