19 years on and WONDERboom are still rocking the crowds and the South African charts! It’s no small feat to be hailed as one of South Africa’s longest-lived and most legendary rock bands, and still going strong.
WONDERboom have much to be proud of. They have released 8 albums, headlined every major SA festival, been nominated for 5 SAMA’s (South African Music Awards), won a Kanna Award & People Crystal Award in 2003 for South Africa’s hottest band. They also won the South African leg of the 2004 Global Battle of the Bands & came second worldwide, all while maintaining the level of music that audiences love.
There can be few South African music fans that aren’t familiar with their hits, like Never Ever, Jafta Rebel, Something Wrong, Africa, Charlie, It’s Great to be Alive, Best Side, On The Radio and Karaoke Bar.
Having celebrated their 17th year in the business, making the band one of the longest-existing bands in South Africa, the band are currently in studio again working on their 9th Album…and in true WONDERboom style, there is sure to be a few surprises in store.
In March 15, 2013, WONDERboom drummer, Garth McLeod had tragically died in a motorcycle accident; which left his family, friends, the band and the music industry in total shock. Garth was also the drummer and founding member of Sugardrive and drummer for WONDERboom guitarist, Martin Schofield’s side project, Martin Rocka and the Sick Shop.
Knowing that Garth would not want the band to dwell on his absence, they believe that the show must go on…
